Neurospicy

 What does Neurospicy mean?

Neurospicy” is a light-hearted, community-created term used by many neurodivergent people to describe brains that work a little differently from what society calls “typical.”

Instead of relying on clinical or medical labels, the term “neurospicy” offers a playful way to talk about the intensity, creativity, complexity or uniqueness that often comes with conditions such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, Tourette’s syndrome, or combinations of these traits.

For many, it feels like a friendlier, more approachable way to say, “My brain works differently — and that’s part of who I am.”

Why people use the term.

Meaning
“Neurospicy” suggests a mind with a different flavour — intense, unconventional, curious, imaginative or wired in ways that don’t always follow the usual recipe.

How it may be used.

People may use it to describe themselves, others or their communities, particularly when different neurodivergent traits overlap.

Where did the term originate?

Social media is where term was first seen where creators wanted to create words and phrases that were empowering rather than labelling, stigmatising and a little less clinical.

Different Perspectives.

Some neurodivergent individuals find the term ‘neurospicy’  fun and liberating. Others feel it can minimise their challenges. Both points of view matter insofar as everyone has the right to choose the language that feels authentic and respectful to their own experience.

Why This Matters in Coaching

In my coaching work — including with neurodivergent probationers who may never have encountered terms like neurodivergent or neurospicy — labels matter less than people.

My approach is always strengths-based.
That means:

  • Looking at what you’re good at.

  • Exploring what helps you thrive.

  • Focusing on practical strategies that support your natural way of thinking.

  • And most importantly, I ask, rather than assume.

Everyone deserves to understand their strengths and feel supported in using them.
