Words that we use are important. The things we say have impact, both positive and negative.

We all have a responsibility to ensure that we demonstrate a level of EQ to communicate more effectively. Managing your emotions is, effectively, helping people to manage theirs.

Recently, I’ve heard words like ‘invasion’ when discussing migrants.

Also, “I’m terrified” when discussing global climate change. None of these words were actually appropriate as they paint a picture that isn’t accurate. They actually create images that spark emotions in others, creating angst and outrage.

Admittedly, many people use the words in their heads or may not have other words to use. But we should consider our words and the impact that they have.

To avoid creating division, is it too much to ask?
